Brian founded VertexCFO to provide the outsourced expert-level resources start-up and middle market companies need to reach their goals. One of Brian’s greatest strengths is his ability to translate complex financial material into meaningful information for his CEO clients, allowing them to easily comprehend the data and confidently present financial results to their executive boards and investors. Brian has a personable approach that clients connect with and value.

Kevin McMahon

Kevin McMahon joined the company in 2019 bringing more than 25 years of experience in financial leadership — strategic planning, financial analysis, key metrics development, financial reporting process improvement, and M&A including post-deal integration. His career spans multiple industries, incorporating telecom, software, data management and retail companies. Kevin has a deep knowledge of finance for SaaS companies, with a proven track record of implementing strategic initiatives for profitability improvements. Kevin is married with 3 kids, enjoys road biking and has completed 10 Century rides in Colorado, supporting local charities. He enjoys cooking and spends vacation time in Europe where he can visit his family.

Tom Moore

CPA l CFO Advisor

Tom Moore is a CFO Advisor at VertexCFO, serving as a fractional CFO. Throughout his career, He has specialized in advising private equity and corporate clients on strategic growth through integrated and operationalized mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Tom’s background in consulting and in commercial banking translates to diverse expertise in operations, cross-border buy-side and sell-side transactions, financial analysis and due diligence, including quality of earnings, cash flow, working capital and purchase agreement review. Prior to joining VertexCFO, Tom served 18 years as a senior partner at EY in Strategy and Transactions. As a CFO Advisor, Tom works with VertexCFO clients to achieve competitive advantage by maximizing long-term value. He is adept at simplifying and solving multifaceted business issues. Tom earned his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and his B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration at the University of Kansas. He is licensed in Colorado as a CPA and is a member of the AICPA. Known for his calm and thoughtful approach, When not working, he enjoys traveling and seeking out new restaurants.

Christopher Nowak

With nearly three decades of experience in financial, accounting and IT systems consulting for Fortune 1000 companies, Chris leads VertexCFO’s Technical Services Group, including design and implementation of client accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. With a primary focus on operating systems and process improvements, Chris helps clients understand their information system needs, and implements solutions that streamline processes and improve financial performance. Prior to consulting for 20+ years, Chris held full-time controller and auditor roles. Chris serves as treasurer and a board member for Outdoor Buddies, a nonprofit organization that takes disabled people on hunting and fishing trips. Chris enjoys skiing, hiking and biking in the Colorado mountains.

Sharon Bashaw Kirkendall

CFO, Advisor

Sharon Bashaw Kirkendall serves as CFO, Advisor for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 20 years of experience in financial leadership and extensive expertise in financial analysis, GAAP financial reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, and collaborating with clients to achieve strategic goals for middle market companies. Sharon is passionate about building strong relationships with her clients to improve their financial and operational processes and meet their strategic goals. Her career spans multiple industries including technology, SaaS, health care, marketing and advertising, B2B distribution, real estate, and construction services. Prior to joining VertexCFO, she was the Controller for Health Inventures where she oversaw all corporate accounting functions. Sharon holds a B.S. degree in business administration and finance from California State University – Hayward’s School of Business and Economics. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and is a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys exploring new cuisine.

Nathan Sutterer

CFO Advisor

Nathan Sutterer is a CFO Advisor at VertexCFO. During his 25+ year finance career, he has excelled at transforming teams and business practices. His experience includes planning and analysis, financial modeling and reporting, process improvement, systems implementation, cash and bank management, M&A, integration and restructuring initiatives, internal controls and team building and coaching. He’s served in roles including CEO, CFO, Controller, and FP&A Director. Nathan gained valuable experience for eight years at Bigham Ag, a $22 million private equity backed high-growth agricultural equipment company. As a successful CFO for five years, he transformed accounting, finance, treasury, payroll, IT, HR, purchasing and inventory control. He also developed GAAP procedures, built financial consolidation practices and implemented an ERP solution. He then assumed CEO responsibilities for an additional three years, where he grew EBITDA by 380% during a market down-cycle. After that, he served as an executive financial consultant where he specialized in turn-around initiatives for private equity backed businesses with up to $800 million revenue. Nathan earned his bachelor’s in finance and international business at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He also studied at the Universidad de Alicante in Spain where he established his conversational Spanish. Outside of work, Nathan is an Indiana Hoosier basketball fanatic and an avid designer of furniture, products, and spaces for minimalist home design.

Jazmin Dukes

Director of Operations

Jazmin Dukes is Controller, Advisory Services and serves in the capacity of a fractional Controller for VertexCFO clients. Jazmin thrives on helping business owners and management teams solve complex accounting issues and enjoys being a key accounting team member. She works with accounting teams to improve transactional processes and brings clarity to financial information. Her years of experience in accounting include overseeing payroll, accounts receivables, accounts payable, corporate bank accounts, tax filings, general ledger reconciliations, financial analysis and preparation of financial statements for small, middle-market and large corporations. In addition, she has been a business owner herself, and understands first-hand the challenges her clients face. She also served as a controller for Vivax Pros, a 40-million-dollar home improvement company, where she managed an eight-person accounting department, as well as daily bank deposits, an online banking portal, payroll, quarterly taxes and the preparation of financial statements. She holds a BS degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, she is a Certified Management Accountant, Certified Notary of Colorado and Certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor. Jazmin enjoys outdoor activities and running triathlons and half marathons in her spare time.

Nicola serves as Controller, Advisory Services for VertexCFO clients. She has 16+ years of experience as a talented financial leader. She’s committed to developing robust standards, internal controls and processes and strives to keep company financial operations compliant, accurate and cost-effective. Nicola has expertise in budgeting, forecasting, project accounting and capital budgeting in both the public and private sectors. She had responsibility for all financial reporting, month-end reporting and analysis for programs in excess of $110 million for a subsidiary of PACCAR, a $23 billion Fortune 500 manufacturing company. She also gained valuable experience working in SOX compliance and SEC reporting, preparing forms 10-K and 10-Q. Nicola started her career at a public accounting firm, working for five years in auditing across many industries. Nicola received a B.B.A in Accounting at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. In her spare time, Nicola enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, gardening and especially loves living near the water and escaping to the islands of Puget Sound.

Michelle Wheat

Michelle serves as a fractional Controller for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 17 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, and financial reporting for middle market companies. She is results-oriented with extensive project management and strong leadership skills, with experience coordinating teams to meet measurable results. She is a self-starter with a keen ability to multi-task in fast-paced environments. Prior to joining VertexCFO, she was the corporate controller for SurfaceCycle Inc. where she oversaw all corporate accounting functions for a multi-entity corporation. Michelle has a diverse background in the following industries: SaaS, technology, digital marketing, security software, construction services, and biomedical. Michelle holds a BS degree in business administration from the University of Colorado. Michelle enjoys time with her friends and family and is passionate about the outdoors and especially loves skiing.

Carrie Williams, CPA

Controller, Advisory Services

Carrie Williams is Controller of Advisory Services and serves in the capacity of a fractional Controller for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 12 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, financial reporting and leading and mentoring cross-functional teams in the manufacturing, construction, sales, service and healthcare industries. Carrie collaborates with her clients to develop and implement process improvement programs and has experience with accounting system upgrades, project profitability, time tracking processes, ASC 606 accounting guidelines and sales and use tax compliance. Prior to joining VertexCFO, she was the Controller for Eaton Metal Products Company LLC, a private company with two parent companies, five subsidiaries and more than 200 employees. Her responsibilities included managing the accounting and HR teams. She was responsible for all the financial transactions of the company reporting to the President and CEO. Carrie also has five years of experience in the healthcare industry, as well as public accounting experience with an emphasis on tax services. She holds a BS degree in Public Accounting from Colorado Mesa University. She spends her spare time hiking, biking, and traveling with her family.

Hope Inman

Staff Accountant

Hope Inman is a Staff Accountant at VertexCFO with more than 25 years working in international companies, public accounting, nonprofits and small companies, with the mid-market as her focus. Detail and process oriented, Hope is a true problem solver and analytical thinker, as well as an internal and external relationship builder. She is experienced in providing outsourced solutions to clients – including fractional accounting services, bookkeeping and payroll processing. She’s been responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions including AR, AP, cash management, GL management, expense reporting and payroll. Previously, Hope served as a key member her employer’s leadership team and was a trusted advisor to the president on the financial aspects of the business. Hope is well-versed in GAAP, GL, AP, AR, payroll, sales tax and financial reporting. She’s a pro at QuickBooks, SAP, Gusto, ADP, G-Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite. Hope enjoys spending time with her 3 daughters, her Great Dane, Samson, two cats, and extended family and friends. She prefers summer over winter and looks forward to any and all activities involving water, beaches or lakes.
