Maya Chain

CPA | CFO Advisor

Maya Chain has more than 15 years of diverse accounting and finance experience with a strong focus on middle market companies in finance, manufacturing, technology, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. She is particularly strong with software implementation and applying accounting software to inventory control and management. Prior to joining VertexCFO in 2015, she served as vice president of finance for a promotional merchandising agency specializing in strategic global sourcing of manufactured items. She had oversight of financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and was responsible for helping the company with inventory control and inventory management. Maya has in-depth knowledge ofMicrosoft Dynamics GP (formerly called Microsoft Great Plains), SAP and cloud-based accounting software like Intacct and FreshBooks. A Colorado native, Maya enjoys spending time in the mountains with her family and skiing, hiking and biking.

Michael Finch

CPA | CFO Advisor

Michael has more than 30 years of experience in business operations, capital raise, mergers and acquisitions, organizational structure and financial leadership. He is a dynamic business leader with extensive expertise in GAAP financial reporting, forecasting, financial presentations to key stakeholders, establishing company-wide KPI’s, managing investor relations, bank negotiations, contract compliance, and process improvement. His M&A experience includes performing strategic analysis of potential acquisitions, due diligence, proforma analysis, as well as negotiating with national Private Equity and Venture Capital firms to secure funding for acquisitions. Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, hunting, skiing, playing golf and supporting numerous non-profit organizations. Michael holds an MBA, Master of Accounting and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Colorado.

Jerry Kukuchka

CFO Advisor

Jerry joined VertexCFO as a CFO Advisor in 2022. He is an accomplished finance professional with experience in domestic, international, public and private companies, ranging in size from $2M to over $300M. His clients benefit from his strong analytical skills and experience in cost reductions, financial statement preparation and strategic planning. He is also a skilled mentor and executive level coach and enjoys motivating and guiding diverse teams. Jerry has held CFO and senior financial positions since 2006. In his last role at ACI Learning, he assisted the company through several high growth years with operations expansion to multiple states and navigated the sale and due diligence to a national private equity sponsor. This role was responsible for managing a significant accounting department of 11 FTE’s, implementing a fully integrated ERP accounting system (NetSuite) and managing the reporting and forecasting requirements for senior leadership and the private equity team. He has strong experience in planning, budgeting and forecasting, financial statement preparation (SEC, IFRS, GAAP), KPI development, cost reduction, process improvements, and capital justification. He has extensive experience working on mergers, acquisitions, letters of intent, due diligence requests and valuations, quality of earnings studies, integrations, and independent reviews and audits.

Kevin McMahon

Kevin McMahon joined the company in 2019 bringing more than 25 years of experience in financial leadership — strategic planning, financial analysis, key metrics development, financial reporting process improvement, and M&A including post-deal integration. His career spans multiple industries, incorporating telecom, software, data management and retail companies. Kevin has a deep knowledge of finance for SaaS companies, with a proven track record of implementing strategic initiatives for profitability improvements. Kevin is married with 3 kids, enjoys road biking and has completed 10 Century rides in Colorado, supporting local charities. He enjoys cooking and spends vacation time in Europe where he can visit his family.

Christopher Nowak

With nearly three decades of experience in financial, accounting and IT systems consulting for Fortune 1000 companies, Chris leads VertexCFO’s Technical Services Group, including design and implementation of client accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. With a primary focus on operating systems and process improvements, Chris helps clients understand their information system needs, and implements solutions that streamline processes and improve financial performance. Prior to consulting for 20+ years, Chris held full-time controller and auditor roles. Chris serves as treasurer and a board member for Outdoor Buddies, a nonprofit organization that takes disabled people on hunting and fishing trips. Chris enjoys skiing, hiking and biking in the Colorado mountains.

Sharon Bashaw Kirkendall

Sharon Bashaw Kirkendall serves in the capacity of a outsourced Controller for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 17 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, financial reporting and staff management for middle market companies in the healthcare, construction, housing and financial industries. Sharon is passionate about collaborating with her clients to improve their accounting processes, training staff on business operational process efficiencies and providing the level of support companies need to meet their financial and strategic goals. Sharon is passionate about kickboxing, is a “foodie” who enjoys exploring new cuisine and she loves spending time with her family.

Dana White

Controller, Advisory Services

Dana White is serves in the capacity of a fractional Controller for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 20 years of experience in finance, process improvement and project management in the retail, SaaS, manufacturing, CPG, e-commerce, utilities, biotech, government and non-profit industries. An experienced outsourced Controller, she has supported growing organizations in end-to-end accounting, audit, payroll and HR services. She learned her client’s businesses and optimized their accounting workflows, created strategic multi-year plans supported by robust budgets, cash flow forecasts, equity analysis for Seed, Series A and Series B funding and revenue recognition. As Director of Finance at Velo Operating, a $45M retail company, she oversaw the financial operations and financial planning of the company and assisted with the acquisition and merging of three companies. The acquisition and integration included due diligence, Quality of Earnings and an audit for the entities. Dana was integral to consolidating the acquired companies onto the NetSuite accounting platform. Previous roles included serving as a Controller for a $40M aerospace engineering and audit consulting work with KPMG. Dana holds a BS degree in business administration and accounting, and an MBA from Colorado State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and holds a Certified Fraud Examiners License (CFE). Dana enjoys the mountains, the four seasons and everything else Colorado has to offer, but the best part is sharing it all with her son.

Carrie Williams is Controller of Advisory Services and serves in the capacity of a fractional Controller for VertexCFO clients. She has more than 12 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, financial reporting and leading and mentoring cross-functional teams in the manufacturing, construction, sales, service and healthcare industries. Carrie collaborates with her clients to develop and implement process improvement programs and has experience with accounting system upgrades, project profitability, time tracking processes, ASC 606 accounting guidelines and sales and use tax compliance. Prior to joining VertexCFO, she was the Controller for Eaton Metal Products Company LLC, a private company with two parent companies, five subsidiaries and more than 200 employees. Her responsibilities included managing the accounting and HR teams. She was responsible for all the financial transactions of the company reporting to the President and CEO. Carrie also has five years of experience in the healthcare industry, as well as public accounting experience with an emphasis on tax services. She holds a BS degree in Public Accounting from Colorado Mesa University. She spends her spare time hiking, biking, and traveling with her family.

Katie Policaro

Katie Policaro has two decades of diverse experience in the accounting field. In her role at VertexCFO, Katie supports controllers, directors and clients by performing monthly reconciliations, coordinating payroll details, managing bookkeeping responsibilities and assisting clients with daily transactional accounting duties. Katiehas a detail-oriented style with an outgoing personality, and she enjoys teaming with her clients to improve their accounting processes and meet their strategic operational goals. She is a seasoned professional at managing QuickBooks for small- to mid-sized companies, as well as understanding taxation policies including payroll, sales and property taxes. She frequently prepares clients’ sales analyses, P/L and balance sheet statements. A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and enjoys skiing, yoga, tennis and live music.
